The most storied
rivalry in basketball will be renewed as the Boston Celtics and
Los Angeles Lakers meet in Boston in the NBA Finals beginning
Thursday night (June 5) in Boston. The Celtics opened as a
3-point favorite with a 193 ½ point total for Game-1 by
oddsmakers at

This will be Boston Celtics first NBA Finals appearance since
1987 when they lost to the Los Angeles Lakers, 4-2. In that
series over 20 years ago the battle was between Ervin Magic
Johnson and Larry Bird. The 2008 version of Celtics vs. Lakers
is not short of super-stars either with the likes of Kobe Bryant

As the
basketball season winds down, the excitement heats up as
another NBA Playoffs season kicks off this April 19th.
2008 NBA Championship & NBA Playoffs
Regular Season is on and the NBA Playoffs Teams are waiting to
be chosen. The NBA playoffs will be upon us after the games of
April 19th, and Making odds and handicapping the playoffs are
different than doing it during the regular season.
2008 NBA Playoffs & NBA Championship
Consisting of 16 teams in 2 conferences, the playoffs involve
nearly two months of play.
The playoffs are conducted in four rounds of best-of-seven
series. The three division winners in each conference, along
with the five best non-division winners in each conference,
qualify for the playoffs. The division winners and top
second-place team are seeded first through fourth based on
record, with the remaining teams seeded fifth through eighth on
record.
NBA Final
Betting Format
The NBA Finals is
the championship series of the National Basketball Association,
played under a best-of-seven playoff format. The team winning
the Eastern Conference Finals earns one of the two berths in the
championship round, with the other going to the team that wins
the Western Conference Finals.
Up until last year, the division winners earned the top three
seeds in the conference; this was amended by the NBA on August
3, 2006 to rectify the problem highlighted by controversy in
last year's playoffs. Under this new system, the teams with the
two best records in the conference cannot meet until the
conference finals, unlike last year, when the 63-win San Antonio
Spurs and the 60-win Dallas Mavericks met in the conference
semifinals.

How to bet on NBA basketball?
A typical
online wagering menu for NBA includes, but is not limited to,
the following exciting bets:
POINTSPREAD
Many online sportsbooks and casinos offer point spread and over
/ under betting, both online and over the telephone. On a point
spread wager, the team wagered must win by the point spread. On
an over / under wager, the total points of the contest by both
teams, overtime included, must fall over or under the side
selected.
Example:
The posted line is the L.A. Lakers -10 at Portland
Trailblazers +10 and the
.0 total is 189.
The odds are $1.10 to win $1.00 (-110) unless otherwise
indicated.
For the player who wagers on the Lakers -10, they must win by
more than 10 points for this to be a winning wager. For the
player who wagers on Portland +10, they must either win the game, or lose by less than 10 points for this to be a winning wager. If the outcome falls on the number, either way, the bet
is declared a "Push", and the original stake is refunded.
For the player who wagers on the total points of this contest by
both teams to be "Over" 189, the combined final score of both
teams must exceed 189.
|
|
For the player who wagers on the total points of this contest by both teams to be "Under" 189, the
combined final score of both teams must be less than 189. If the
outcome falls on the number, the bet is declared a "Push", and
the original stake is refunded.
Pointspread and Over/Under lines will be offered on all NBA contests.
All wagers on the side & total will include all overtime scoring |

MONEYLINE
Many Las Vegas and web based sportsbooks offer moneyline odds wagering on American Basketball, both online and over the
telephone. Moneyline Wagering is simply wagering on the contest
based on a given price rather than a point spread. The team bet
on just, has to win the game.
Example:
A player could choose one of two wagers on the following matchup:
L.A. Lakers -200 at Portland Trailblazers +180. If the Lakers
win, the player laid $200.00 to win $100.00. If Portland wins,
the player who bet $100.00 wins $180.00. |
 |
PROPOSITION
Simply put, Proposition/Exotic Bets may generally be considered
as any wager other than a straight "side" or "over/under" wager.
More specifically, these wagers usually involve specific events
and occurrences that happen throughout any given game. We have
listed some examples for you below. Props/Exotics will be
offered on more marquee games on the betting menu. These
include, but are not limited to, Sunday and Monday night NFL
games, various NCAA Football games, major Bowl games, and many
Playoff and Championship Basketball games. There are also many
other miscellaneous events that Props and Exotics will be
offered for. |
|
POINTBUYING
Many Atlantic City sportsbooks and internet casinos offer Point
Buys. This is a method of allowing the bettor to improve the point spread odds of a Basketball contest by actually "buying
points" for the team he/she wants to wager, side or total.
Bettors can buy points in 1/2 point increments up to 3 points,
depending on the contest. Each 1/2 point costs the bettor an
additional 10% vigorish.
Example:
The L.A. Lakers are playing the Portland Trailblazers, and the
line on the game is the Lakers -10, with a total of 189. If a
$100 wager is placed on the Lakers -10 with a 1/2 point buy, the
player has a wager on the Lakers -9 1/2 points, and must put up
$120 to win $100, instead of the usual $110 to win $100. If the
player, for example, requests a full 1 point buy to move the point spread down to -9, he/she would have to put up $130 to win
$100.
Conversely, the bettor may also buy points on the Trailblazers
side, and get the line at plus 10 1/2 or 11 points, with the
same increase in vigorish.
Bettors may also buy points for basketball totals. In this
particular game, bettors could buy an "over" wager with a
maximum line move down to 188, or an "under" wager with a
maximum line move up to 190.
Point Buying up to a maximum of 2 point will be offered on all NBA and NCAA contests.
Point Buying will not be offered on halftime, quarter or
moneyline wagers. |
